Edge Global Congress
November 6, 2019
As data is generated at ever more exponential rates, and globally moves us towards the age of Yottabyte, so compute processing power disperses across enterprise, and cloud resources...
For this edition of CLOUDS AHEAD Datacloud spoke to Seppo Ihalainen CEO & Co-Founder at Ficolo
Datacloud: What do you see as the future drivers for the industry?
In the next few years, the cloud and service provider market growth will be driven by multiple long-term trends: Multi-Cloud, Internet of things, artificial intelligence and edge data centers. These trends have created a more complex data center ecosystem, in which more players are needed. Cloud delivery will evolve with cloud on-ramps, and as a result the potential market will expand significantly.
Datacloud: What regions within Europe do you see as primed for IT asset expansion?
Helsinki is one of the most potential cities in Europe for data enters and could evolve into a datacenter hub alongside London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Paris.
The city is located at the crossroads of connections from Russia, Sweden, Germany and in the future likely the fastest route to Asia, while Finland offers almost optimal conditions and is perhaps the best country in the world for datacenters. Helsinki could and should grow datacenter capacity and evolve to a Tier 1 datacenter hub.
Ficolo is planning new datacenter in the Helsinki area and that is one of the first steps in achieving the Tier 1 hub status.
Datacloud: What is one of your goals for the next year and how do you expect to achieve it?
Our new datacenter in Helsinki starts construction this year and will be in operation next year. That will enable us to offer our customers a package that serves them even better than our existing underground datacenter in Pori, on the west coast of Finland.
Ficolo has achieved fast growth in the previous years and aims to achieve similar results in the coming years. The plan for Ficolo is to multiply the revenue in the next few years. Ficolo’s goal is to become of the major players in the datacenter space in Europe and at the same time support the growth of Helsinki into an important European datacenter hub.
Datacloud: How can our sector help to improve society?
Datacenters and cloud are enablers that serve as the basis for creating a more flexible and cost-effective environment for various industries and organizations. Once this hits a tipping point, such as with a combination of high-performance computing and artificial intelligence in healthcare applications, the impact on society could be dramatic.
Seppo will be at the Datacloud Europe 2018 congress in Monaco June 12-14th. Meet them there
