Edge Global Congress
November 6, 2019
As data is generated at ever more exponential rates, and globally moves us towards the age of Yottabyte, so compute processing power disperses across enterprise, and cloud resources...
For this edition Datacloud spoke to Alex Hauser
Datacloud: What do you see as the future drivers for the industry?
The main point being raised is now speed, time to market. So either DC operators pre-invest into new facilities increasing speed of deployment or new ways of building data centers – beyond mere modular approaches – are needed. We also note power densities rising strongly beyond the capabilities of classical air-cooling - so new ways of building must go hand in hand with new ways of cooling.
Datacloud: What regions within Europe do you see as primed for IT asset expansion?
Strange enough, we see a lot of expansion in Germany, which power is amongst the most expensive in Europe, land is expensive and authorities are not generally supportive. This seem to buck common sense that everyone goes where power is cheap, climate is cold and governments strongly support data center investments. I do believe that data centers will be built close to the users, so I´m convinced the large economies will retain an important share in new investments.
Datacloud: What is one of your goals for the next year and how do you expect to achieve it?
Our goal is to design and build more of the Cube data centers which we have pioneered and which have won international acclaim. Time is ripe for ultra-efficient new designs that save both energy and TCO. With Cloud providers taking an ever larger share of the cake for which the Cube from our perspective is ideal, we will work hard to convince these companies that the Cube provides real value for them compared to more traditional ways – by the way, not only for hyper-scale but also smaller data centers.
Datacloud: How can our sector help to improve society?
Today, virtually any aspect of our lives produces, consumes and distributes data around the globe. Data center are to core to all this. So by delivering performant, inexpensive and highly energy-efficient data centers we can empower people, businesses and institutions to get and stay connected – without impairing our goal of sustainability.
