Corporate VP – Azure Global

Microsoft Responsibilities/Contributions – Tom Keane is the Corporate Vice President of Azure Global, a 700+ strong Engineering team located in 25 countries that is chartered with expanding the reach of Azure so it can be adopted by every country, every industry and every customer in the world. In addition to teams that design and build Azure’s Global infrastructure footprint, he also leads AzureCAT (Customer Adoption Team), the team responsible for helping Azure’s most complex customers remove product blockers. Furthermore, Tom is Azure’s chief compliance and privacy officer working with global governments and regulators enabling Azure to be the industry leader in compliance and privacy.

He has led the expansion of Microsoft Azure into 54 global regions covering 74% of the world’s GDP, including the UK, Japan, India, France, Germany, Korea, China and Australia. Currently, Tom is leading Azure’s expansion into Africa, the Middle East and Switzerland. In addition to landing a global footprint, he is also spearheading Azure into key segments such as financial services, oil and gas, critical infrastructure, and health and life sciences. Engineering efforts for Microsoft’s blockchain capabilities, precision agriculture, and security and audit for highly restricted industries also fall within his remit; as does the responsibility for defining and executing Azure’s approach to federal, state and local governments, departments of defense, and global intelligence communities. Tom has led the build out of Microsoft’s government cloud capabilities, including the effort to host classified data. He views Azure Global as the tip of the spear for tackling some of Azure and Microsoft’s most complex, mission-critical, full-spectrum challenges, no matter where in the world they may exist.

Pre-Microsoft Work Experience – Prior to joining Microsoft in 2001, Tom worked in consulting with multi-national companies building real time and mission-critical systems. He holds multiple patents covering hyperscale computing, infrastructure operations, user experience, and distributed systems.

Education – Tom earned his BSC in Computer Science from the University of South Australia.

Family/Other Interests – Tom lives in Seattle with his wife, Dr. Lara Wagner, and their two young children. He is an Australian native and passionate follower of Australian Rules Football and the Australian Cricket team.
